Explaining Donald Trump to a Six-Year-Old
“Dad?”
“Mmm?”
“Is Donald Trump a good guy or a bad guy?”
“He’s a bad guy.”
“Why?”
“Well, lots of reasons.”
“Like what?
“Well, he owns lots of buildings. And he charges people lots of money to stay in those buildings. But he doesn’t want to pay people very much money to work in those buildings.”
“Why not?”
“He’s very greedy. He wants to keep all the money for himself, and not give any to anyone else. He doesn’t like to share.”
“That’s not very nice.”
“I agree.”
“Why else is he a bad guy?”
“He wants to send people who live here back to the countries where they originally came from. And he won’t let anybody new come in who are trying to escape from bad people back in their countries.”
“Why?”
“Well, he doesn’t think they should be here in the first place since they weren’t invited to come.”
“But some of them live here now?”
“Yes.”
“Are they nice people?”
“For the most part, yes. They pick the strawberries you like to eat. They work in the restaurants we like to go to. They help build the houses we live in, plant the trees and flowers we like to look at.”
“So why does he want to send them back?”
“Because he thinks they’re lazy and do lots of naughty things.”
“Picking strawberries and planting trees and flowers isn’t lazy or naughty.”
“He also likes to call those people names.”
“That’s not very nice.”
“And he likes to brag about himself.”
“He sounds yucky.”
“He is pretty yucky.”
“Do you know what I would do if I ever saw him?”
“What?”
“I’d put him in the control tower with all the other bad guys.”
“What’s the control tower?”
“It’s where all the bad guys go, like Thanos…Darth Vader…the Joker.”
“The control tower sounds like a very good place for him to be.”
